Been going through chapters 2 and 3 of Revelation. These 7 churches is what the Church looks like when Jesus comes to judge. This is where we are now w cowwunism at our doorstep. Yet, it’s not about unbelievers and all the evil in the world (although God is very mindful of it), but about the church at large not having its priorities in order. This is what allows evil to ramp up and thrive. This is why judgment is allowed.
Sardis means “red ones”. Which is the same thing “Esau” means. Remember him? Esau was the brother of Jacob who sold his birthright for a meal. Those in Sardis are as Esau: earthly thinking and concerns come first; they love their appetites of the moment more than the Lord. And this is the place where cowwunism excels. They create and foster the conditions which make you focused on yourself and dependent upon them. Which is why you see drug use legalized, food cards, and “free” healthcare and other “freebies” from the government.
Functioning in our body and its wants causes us to lose what’s rightfully ours in Christ. Not being willing to say no to ourself causes us to lose fellowship with Jesus. Now, He knows those who are working on it, and he is merciful and gives space and time to repent. He's not an ogre about it, not legalistic, but yes, the standard of righteousness about it is there.
Those who overcome, will walk with him in white. Jesus will confess their name before the Father and his angels- just like all those names were remembered in the OT book of Nehemiah, of the unknown people mentioned who helped build the temple, and other lesser known people. All are recorded. They got a "well-done, enter in". Let us forget ourselves, and receive the same.
